Citizens for Peace in Space Protest Vigil
22nd Int’l Space Foundation Symposium
Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs, CO

Each April the aerospace industry entity, Space Foundation, holds its annual international symposium to promote U.S. control of space. In 2005, in Colorado Springs over 6,000 military personnel and aerospace corporation reps attended. A career fair was also held and attracted 800 students from 46 states.

Each year during this event, the Colorado Springs-based Citizens for Peace In Space (CPIS) holds protests outside the event. In 2006 the GN will join with CPIS to vigil daily at the Space Foundation conference. CPIS has offered to find home hospitality for those coming to Colorado Springs.

Protest for Peace
Stop using space domination to attack Iraq

Vandenberg Air Force Base, California

With: Que Keju of the Marshall Islands, Medea Benjamin of Global Exchange and Bill Mitchell of Gold Star Families for Peace.

Time: 1:00 pm  to 3:00 - at 3:00 here will be a picnic at Ryon Park with local peace activists to share food and experiences.

At: the front gate of Vandenberg Air Force Base intersection of Lompoc-Casamilia Road and Highway One, six miles north of Lompoc.

Meet: Ryon Park in Lompoc at 12:30 for orientation and to form
carpools to the front gate.

See www.vpeaceldf.org for directions to Ryon Park or call MacGregor Eddy at 831 206 5043

Peace protesters are supposed to be able to park in the lot of Vandenberg Middle School across the street from the front gate,  sometimes the MP's do not allow this.

Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California is a global nerve center for coordinating surveillance, communications, global positioning and other data to land, air and sea military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to coordinating the illegal war against Iraq, Vandenberg also violates international law by launching test ICBM and "Star Wars" interceptor missiles that land at Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands.  These tests have forced the removal of the Marshallese people from their islands. Over 1850 missile and rocket launches have taken place at Vandenberg on what was once Chumash Indian land. These launches contaminate the surrounding area with perchlorate from rocket fuel.

Join Que Keju of the Marshall Islands, Bill Mitchell of Gold Star Families for Peace and Medea Benjamin of CodePink in a protest at the front gate of the Vandenberg Air Force Base (on Highway 1 near Lompoc) on Saturday May 20, 1 pm to 3 pm. After the front gate action the Lompoc Peace Coalition will hold a rally and picnic at Ryon Park starting a 3 pm. For directions see http://www.vpeaceldf.org.  or email MacGregor Eddy at mindful@redshift.com or call 831-206-5043.

This action is organized by the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space  www.space4peace.org and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom www.wilpf.org

No War on Iran!
US Out of Iraq!
Ban the B-62 and Close the Nuclear War Center at KAFB

Truman Street Gate, Kirtland AFB
Gibson Blvd. at San Mateo SE
Albuqueque, NM

11 am - A National Day of Action called by the Western Shoshone Defense Project, Nevada to stop the Divine Stake test.

Impact tests were recently conducted at Sandia National Lab with the B-61 nuclear bomb for use as a bunker buster. There are 685 B-61s at Kirtland AFB and a new nuclear war-coordianting center has just been opened at the base. On June 2, 2006 the Bush administration is conducting a large test in Nevada called "Divine Strake" to simulate an attack on Iran with B-61 bombs, millions would die. The Shoshone people have called for May 28 as a day of resistance to this madness. Their land is being used for the June test against their will.

President Eisenhower warned us in 1961 about the danger of a military industrial complex creating a permanent state of war for profit and empire. We need to close the war base in Albuquerque before their weapons of mass murder can be used for companies like Exxon, Mobile, Chevron, Shell to gain control of the Middle East oil fields. The military-inustrial complex started here; let's end it here!

Keep Space for Peace Week:
International Days of Protest to Stop the Militarization of Space

Download Poster (1.3MB PDF file)

The Bush Administration has now begun deployment of missile defense interceptors in Alaska and California. Next we expect Bush to give the green light to the Pentagon to begin deploying offensive weapons systems in space. For the past several years the GN’s Keep Space for Peace Week of local actions has taken this issue to classrooms, libraries, TV and radio programs, churches, military bases, aerospace corporation facilities, and the offices of political leaders.

We encourage all concerned citizens to organize a local activity during space week in solidarity with groups all over the world. Working together we must expand our opposition to Bush’s dangerous, costly, and destabilizing nuclearization and weaponization of space. Keep Space for Peace Week will be co-sponsored by Women's Int'l League for Peace and Freedom.

Blockade Nuclear Sub base,
Faslane,Scotland, UK
Keep Space for Peace as Part of Faslane-365

Faslane is the UK’s nuclear submarine base, and central to the government’s plans to build a new generation of nuclear weapons. It currently hosts 4 submarines carrying 58 Trident missiles and up to 200 warheads – each 8 times more powerful than the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima.

Women from the Greenham Common peace camp started off the first three days of Faslane 365, a year long peaceful blockade of the naval base involving groups and organisations from Scotland, England, Wales and beyond.

Since then different groups have been going along to show their protest and take action over a two day period. A particular session from December 12-13 (the anniversary of the US decision to withdraw from the Anti-Ballistic Treaty and deploy Missile Defence systems) has been set aside to focus on space issues as part of this year long protest – a Keep Space for Peace Block.

You are invited and encouraged to take part - please gather from noon on December 12. Bring food to share, warm clothes, waterproofs, musical or other instruments...

We will help organise workshops/discussions on:

  • The Weaponisation of Space
  • Missile Defence
  • Britain’s role in Star Wars
  • And more...

Bring sleeping bags and tents and camp by the base or stay at a campsite, youth hostel or bed and breakfast nearby.

Be ready to blockade the base on Tuesday and Wednesday. Come for one day or three – come to join in, take action or support.
