International Week of Protest to Stop
the Militarisation of Space |
|
PRESS RELEASE Members of Leicester CND are today Saturday 3rd October travelling to 'RAF' Molesworth on the Cambridgeshire/Northamptonshire borders as our contribution to the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space's week of Protest.
Molesworth is part of the US war fighting strategy and
modern warfare, such as the U.S.
occupation of Afghanistan and attacks on Pakistan, uses Unmanned Aerial
Vehicles (UAVs) and GPS-guided bombs. Directed by space satellites, and
remotely controlled far from the battlefield, these weapons are responsible
for massive civilian casualties. Our children are being trained through video
games today to be the remote killers of tomorrow. Death at a distance is still
blood on our hands. We in the Global Network say it’s time to open our eyes
and STOP the military’s use of space for war on Earth. It is time to preserve
space for peace and to end war.
We are pleased that President Obama has stopped the plans to
install the Missile Defence system in Poland and the Czech Republic. But that
hasn't stopped this dreadful waste of money and lives while the world needs
serious handling of the outcomes of global warming.
Anna Cheetham Co-Chair of Leicester CND said today:
"We will be planting some white crocus bulbs in the Peace
Garden at Molesworth as a sign of our wish for Spring to come again with
more Peace in the World" |
