From speeches to marches to rallies, anti-war protesters have multiple events planned this weekend on the Central Coast to mark the second anniversary of the U.S. attack on Iraq.

The Lompoc Coalition for Peace and Justice's speaker will be Peter Lumsdaine, coordinator of the Military Globalization Analysis & Action Project. He will present his "Iraq Eyewitness" slideshow 7 p.m. Friday at the Lompoc Library's Grossman Gallery, 501 East North Ave.

Lumsdaine and his wife, Rev. Meg Lumsdaine traveled to Jordan and Iraq in late 2003 and in 2004 interviewing a wide range of Sunni, Shiite and Christian Iraqis, as well as U.S. military officials and troops.

In Santa Barbara, a march and rally are planned to protest the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq and to acknowledge the more than 1,500 U.S. military members and reported 100,000 Iraqis who have died.

Groups and individuals are invited to De La Guerra Plaza at 11:30 a.m. Saturday to represent their opposition to the war during the Annual People's March for Social and Economic Justice in Santa Barbara. Attendees are asked to create banners and signs, and bring noise makers to the event.

In San Luis Obispo, representatives of local groups are coordinating several public events this weekend, said spokeswoman Monica Vincent.

Friday, "America's Addiction to War: What is it Costing You?" will be the subject of a talk by Frank Kahl, retired academic economist, at 7 p.m. in the San Luis Obispo City-County Library, 995 Palm St.

Kahl will address the past, current and future financial effect of the war on the local and national economy, Vincent said. His presentation will be followed with a question-and-answer session and a 10-minute film, "Economics of Empire."

"Not Another Dime for War" is the theme of a march and gathering from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. It will begin at Mitchell Park and travel through downtown San Luis Obispo in support of peace and bringing the troops home, Vincent said. Participants should bring their own signs.

From 2 to 4 p.m., a gathering to "Say no to war!" will feature speakers who will address the cost to the community, country and youth, Vincent said.

Ending the day's events at 4:30 p.m. will be the San Luis Obispo premiere of "Arlington West" in the San Luis Obispo City-County Library.
