KIEV – Ukraine is ready to resume dialog on cooperation in the creation of a global antiballistic missile defense system with the United States, a high-ranking defense official told Interfax-Ukraine. Commenting on the proposal made by Congressman Michael Rogers that Ukraine give up servicing Russia's RS-20V intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM, NATO reporting name SS-18) to have trump cards in talks with Russia and refresh plans on the participation in the creation of global antiballistic missile defense, the source said that Ukraine is ready to resume the dialog on the global antiballistic missile defense with the United States, which was suspended following the U.S. presidential election in 2008. "I can say that Ukraine today has not received official proposals from the United States on the issue, including an invitation to discuss the prospects for cooperation at the international conference on missile defense in Mainz in Germany to be held on June 17-20," he said. |
