Over 450 turnout to oppose plutonium plan - so far!

25 July 2005

From: The Snake River Alliance

Hundreds of concerned people turned out to the first two public hearings on the proposed plutonium factory at the Idaho National Laboratory.

Overwhelmingly, people opposed the production and consolidation of plutonium in Idaho and urged the government to invest in clean and renewable energy resources.

Wednesday night in Sun Valley, more than 200 people attended the DOE's plutonium hearing to voice their opposition to the proposal, sighting worker safety, environmental pollution, and terrorism risks as reasons to stop plutonium production. Thursday night in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, nearly 250 people demanded real answers to questions about plutonium emissions, worker protection, and the safety of the Advanced Test Reactor, which would be used to produce plutonium.

PLEASE JOIN US NEXT WEEK AND SAY NO TO PLUTONIUM AND YES TO A CLEAN AND SAFE IDAHO!

There will be another round of public hearings next week. Please plan on attending a hearing near you, and bring a friend!
